This Region
The Yugambeh people have lived in this region since time began and are recognised as the area’s traditional owners. They were sustained by the forests and the seas which they nurtured with deep knowledge of the interconnectedness of our natural world.
Timber cutters arrived in the late 1800s searching for red gold, the cedar tree which grew prolifically throughout. With newly cleared land and deep rich volcanic soils, together with high rainfall, it wasn’t long before dairy farmers arrived from the south to produce white gold supplying the local and Brisbane dairy markets, as well as quality butter and cheese in demand for export to Europe…
As Brisbane people started to discover the Gold Coast as a weekend destination holiday homes sprang up at all of our stunning beaches from Southport to Tweed Heads. They soon realised this region was more than just a holiday destination and stayed to create a city that is now the envy of the world.
Today, farmers in our region produce the highest quality milk which we proudly use to craft the highest quality artisanal cheeses in the country.
